Quebec biopic earns Telefilm’s Guichet d’Or

Telefilm Canada has given its fourth Guichet d’Or Award to Sylvain Archambault’s biopic Piché: entre ciel et terre.

The award, shared with the film’s writer Ian Lauzon, honours the Canadian director and writer of the top-grossing French-language movie for 2010 at the Canadian multiplex.

Piché: entre ciel et terre took in $3.7 million at the Canadian box office.

The film portrays the true-life story of an airline pilot, Robert Piche, who on Aug. 24, 2001 successfully crash landed an Air Transat jet in the Azores, which made him an instant hero and celebrity.

Unfortunately, fame also unveiled Pichet’s past as a convicted drug smuggler, a revelation that forced the airline pilot to at long last sort out his personal life.

The Guichet d’Or includes a $40,000 cash prize.

The French language film was produced by Pixcom’s André Dupuy and stars Michel Côté, Maxime LeFlaguais, Sophie Prégent and Normand D’Amour.
