Roma Khanna lands at MGM in top TV post

Former CHUM TV exec and digital guru Roma Khanna has landed at MGM to run its TV and digital arm after recently leaving her post as president of global networks and digital initiatives at NBC Universal International in London.

Khanna will join a restructured MGM as president of its TV and digital group, reporting to Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, co-chairmen and CEOs of the studio.

Khanna will oversee all TV sales, production, acquisitions, licensing, content creation and digital initiatives for MGM worldwide.

“In Roma we have found an executive that we know will be able to fully realize the vision we have for our television and digital business,” Barber and Birnbaum said in a joint statement.

Khanna fills the top MGM TV post after Jim Packer last January left to join Vancouver-based Lionsgate Entertainment.

“MGM has a long history of creating and distributing world-class content and I am very excited to have the opportunity to help grow the global business across both digital and traditional platforms,” she said in her own statement.

Prior to NBCU International, Khanna was senior vice president of content and co-head of CHUM Television, where she helped run the Citytv network and around 20 Canadian specialty channels.

Khanna began her career at Sony Music Canada as a manager of legal and business affairs.

Khanna is also chairman of the Canadian Film Centre, a post she has held through her NBCU tenure to leverage her international contacts for the benefit of the advanced training center.
