Playing catch-up with Canadian rivals Cineplex Entertainment and Empire Theatres, Cinemas Guzzo has bought more digital servers for its multiplexes as part of an ongoing digital upgrade.

The Quebec chain ordered another 62 digital servers from GDC Technology to get to 135 servers in all by June 2012 for a province-wide circuit of 142 screens at 11 locations.

“The upgrade to digital opens many doors for us, but above all, our customers are clearly pleased with high quality imagery,” Vincenzo Guzzo, executive vice president of Cinemas Guzzo, said in a statement.

Cineplex Entertainment and Empire Theatres in April agreed on a Canadian Digital Cinema Partnership to deploy digital projection equipment in their own cinema circuits.
