The Canadian doc apprenticeship program, from the Documentary Organization of Canada and CBC’s digital channel documentary, pairs professionals in the doc-making community with prominent doc producers and directors.

The Giving Voice: Filmmakers Working with Filmmakers apprenticeship program from the Documentary Organization of Canada and CBC digital channel documentary has announced the recipients for its first round, as well as the deadline for its next round.

The program pairs professionals in the doc-making community with prominent doc producers and directors.

Aisling Chin-Yee will be working with John Christou and his production company, Prospector Films. Christou worked as development producer on Brett Gaylor’s RIP: A Remix Manifesto and as producer on Yung Chang’s Up the Yangtze.

Michael Dayan will be working with Audrey Mehler, executive vice president and co-founder of Vancouver’s Paperny Films. She’s written, produced and directed a number of doc projects, including The Boys of Buchenwald and the Showtime series Kink.

Susannah Heath-Eves will be assisting director Yung Chang on his latest project, The Fruit Hunters, which will be coproduced with the National Film Board of Canada for the CBC’s Nature of Things.

Julien Fréchette will be teaming up with human rights documentarian Patricio Henriquez and his production company Macumba International on the completion of his current project on El Salvadoran journalist and filmmaker Victor Regalado. The most recent doc project from Henriquez is You Don’t like the Truth: 4 Days Inside Guantanamo.

Each apprentice will work with their mentor for a period of four months.
