Crank up Canada’s on-demand movie services, because Canadians increasingly have their TV sets connected to the Internet via computers and game consoles.
That’s the conclusion of the Digital Life Canada quarterly from the Solutions Research Group, which found game consoles like XBox 360, PS3 and Wii fill nearly half of Canadian households.
And of those households, over half are Internet enabled and connected to the living room TV for gaming and movies.
What’s more, just under one quarter of Canadian households (23%), moreover connect a laptop or another computer to their main TV sets.
The Solutions Research Group survey found 47% of Canadian Internet households say they prefer to rent movies online, rather than go to the local retail video store.
The study’s findings are good news for Netflix Canada and other over-the-top U.S. online streaming services, and domestic players like the recently-launched Cineplex movie downloading service.
