Quebec media giant Quebecor Inc. has promoted former CRTC boss Françoise Bertrand to chairperson of its board of directors.
Bertrand joined the Quebecor board in 2003. She was commissioner of the CRTC for five years to August 2001.
“Françoise has already demonstrated a tremendous capacity to work very productively with the other members of the Board and with the company’s senior management,” Brian Mulroney, vice chairman of the Quebecor board, said in a statement on news of her promotion.
Bertrand last month came out publicly in support of the CRTC and its continuing independence on the issue of Internet usage-based billing.
The federal cabinet has attempted to challenge usage-based billing, which is favored by Quebecor, a major Internet service provider in Quebec.
Bertrand is also president of the Federation of Quebec Chambers of Commerce.
