CBC announces three key exec changes

The CBC announced three key executive changes Wednesday morning.

As new executive director of content planning, Christine Wilson will be responsible for the overall look of the English Services’ schedules and content across all platforms, including long-term content planning across those services.

Elsewhere, what was once the GM, CBC Television role has been bisected into two new positions, with a dedicated exec overseeing Studio and Unscripted Programming, and another responsible for Commissioned and Scripted Programming.

Julie Bristow (pictured) will take the executive director, studio and unscripted programming position, overseeing development and production of network television programming that is studio-based or produced in a live setting, which includes sports, factual programming and unscripted comedy.

Phyllis Platt will take over as interim executive director, commissioned and scripted programming pending the return of Sally Catto. Platt’s unit will oversee documentary programming under Mark Starowicz, Children and Youth programming under Kim Wilson, scripted comedy under Jenny Hacker, drama under Tom Hastings and digital channels under Bruce Cowley.

“In their new roles, Christine, Julie, Phyllis and their teams will be better able to implement our current strategies leading to 2015 and fulfill our mission as a leading-edge, modern public broadcaster,” observed Kirstine Stewart, executive vice-president of CBC English Services. “We are a content organization and great content is the product of best strategy, best innovation, best creativity and best delivery. To achieve this, we need integrated decision-making and an organizational structure that aligns activities which are closely related.”

The executive changes take effect April 4.
