Global Toronto lands Bud Pierce for its upcoming morning news program

A new morning in Toronto? Looks that way, after Global News hired veteran morning news producer Bud Pierce to stickhandle a new morning news program for Canada’s biggest city later this year.

Pierce, who was the architect and producer of Breakfast Television for Citytv, where he worked for 24 years, becomes consulting executive producer at Global News.

His daytime TV brief is to relaunch Global’s morning news show in Toronto after a recent takeover by Shaw Media.

“Bud’s vast experience will help us produce a morning news program that reflects the very best Toronto has to offer,” Troy Reeb, vice president of Global News, said in a statement.

“We feel the time is right to bring morning news back to Global Toronto with a fresh take on the genre.”

The change at the top of Global’s early programming schedule also follows Shaw Media promising the CRTC new local morning newscasts in Regina, Saskatoon, Halifax and Montreal after recently acquiring the former Canwest Global Communications Corp. TV assets.
