Interest in Canadian TV sport properties just keeps growing after Rogers Sportsnet outbid rivals to have its Pacific regional sports channel air 21 Vancouver Whitecaps FC games in its first year in Major League Soccer.
The three-year regional deal follows TSN securing a national rights package with MLS.
Rogers Sportsnet Pacific will air 24 Whitecaps games each season in 2012 and 2013.
This coming season, Rogers Sportsnet Pacific and Rogers Sportsnet One will air 20 of the 21 games, leaving City TV Vancouver to air a single Whitecaps game on June 4, 2011.
“We’re happy to usher in a new era of the Whitecaps, as they start their quest for the MLS title. This package solidifies our position as the sports leader in British Columbia,” Scott Moore, president of broadcasting at Rogers Media, said in a statement.
