IFTA indie list puts Canuck projects in top spots

LA’s Independent Film & Television Alliance has announced the worldwide box office grosses for the top-50 Independent films of 2010, and Canada has cast a long shadow.

In the number one position with US$562,772,794 in worldwide box-office is the Vancouver Film Studios-shot Twilight Saga: Eclipse. (source: IFTA Research analysis of Rentrak Box Office Essentials data.)

The Don Carmody project Resident Evil: Afterlife (pictured) takes second spot with over $270 million in gate receipts.

Toronto-shot actioner RED took fourth spot (after Brazil-filmed The Expendables) with $160 million.

Additionally, Hamilton/Toronto-shot Kick Ass did $96 million in eleventh place.

Japan led the way for non-English language films, accounting for nine of the 13 non-English titles on the list.
