Kids in the Hall veteran scribe Paul Bellini (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Locker Room, Futz!) has signed on as head writer for ToonBox Entertainment’s latest tween project, Jad and David’s Monster Special (w/t).
The 2D animated comedy one-off is inspired by the titular brothers Jad and David Fair, who comprise the punk rock band Half Japanese. Currently in development, the 44-minute special centers on the character Mr. Monster Master as he assists the sibling duo in creating the perfect Halloween party.
Producer Thom Chapman tells Playback Daily that the prodco is fielding broadcaster interest. Monster Special will also see a DVD release including a CD of Half Japanese’s music from the special and other original tunes for a fall 2012 release. ToonBox’s Ria Westaway is on board as producer, along with the American Fair brothers as creative consultants.
Half Japanese’s claim to fame is opening for Nirvana and also working with Penn Jillette, Moe Tucker and The Sadies.
The project is a co-pro with ToonBox and Red Rover.
