TVOntario launches Boxee and Yahoo! TV apps

TVOntario has connected with Boxee and Yahoo! TV to get its shows onto the online TV platforms.

TVO launched apps for Boxee’s set top box and Yahoo! TV’s widget engine so young consumers of the devices can access original and library content from the educational broadcaster.

“The TV represents the last screen in our homes to be connected to the Internet,” Bob Tarle, innovation program manager for TVO, explained.

“We’ve been working hard to bridge the Internet to TV screens and we’re pleased to be able to offer a connected TV experience with the trusted content that TVO is known for,” he added.

The Boxee and Yahoo! TV apps will enable viewers to download episodes of Gisèle’s Big Backyard (pictured) and The Space, both of which are part of the TVOKids lineup.

TVO is also distributing via the online TV devices library content from Allan Gregg In Conversation, Big Ideas, Think Again and The Agenda with Steve Paikin.

The launch of the Boxee and Yahoo! TV apps was completed in part through a collaboration between the educational broadcaster and Sheridan College’s interactive multimedia post-graduate program, via a jointly-run digital innovation lab.
