Alliance Films ends 2010 as Canada’s largest indie distributor

Alliance Films ended 2010 where it began, as Canada’s largest indie movie distributor.

Montreal-based Alliance Films ended the year with a 7.4% share of the Canadian box office, or $75 million in ticket receipts, according to Rentrak.

That was just below Universal Pictures Canada with a 7.8% share.

Alliance Films’ biggest pay-days came from Dear John and Don Carmody’s Resident Evil: Afterlife, both of which accounted for around 10% of the distributor’s 2010 box office take.

Rentrak put rival indie distributor Entertainment One’s Canadian market share at 6.2% at the year-end, or $62.8 million in ticket receipts at the end of 2010.

Around 45% of Entertainment One’s total gross last year came from the Twilight franchise.
