Shaw Media management restructuring continues

Shaw Media has reorganized its top management on the programming front, with Christine Shipton (pictured) now commissioning original content across the broadcaster’s entire stable of over-the-air and specialty channels.

Shipton widening her duties from from senior VP of drama and factual content to VP of original content follows Karen Gelbart leaving the broadcaster as senior vice president of lifestyle content, and the former Canwest Global Communications’ TV assets continuing to restructure under new owner Shaw Communications.

The post-merger management structure includes Daniel Eves heading up scheduling across all specialty channels as VP of programming and scheduling, and Phil Piazza continuing as VP of content acquisitions and Global Television Scheduling, responsible for buying all acquired content for all networks.

Greg Treffry, vice president of partner development, will continue to manage channel partnerships and business development.

Shaw Media’s news-gathering organization earlier adopted a similar top-heavy management structure, with decision-making for local and national news coming from Troy Reeb and a single team under his command, while local and national sales will come under the leadership of Errol Da-Re.

Barb Williams, senior vice president of content of the newly-rebranded broadcaster, is overseeing the programming restructuring that will see Shipton, Eves and Piazza lead series commissioning, scheduling and acquisitions, respectively, across all channel assets.

The Shaw Media management review is expected to be completed by the end of January. In the meantime, network employees are encouraged to pose questions and recommendations to network president Paul Robertson, via askpaul@sjrb.ca.
