OWN sampling ahead of Canadian launch

The Oprah Winfrey Network won’t launch in Canada until March 2011, but that’s not stopping Corus Entertainment from giving Canadians a sneak peek at its programming.

In the two-month interim between the January 1, 2011 launch stateside and the March 1 bow in Canada, some new OWN programming will air on W Network and Viva.

That includes from January 7 Corus airing day-and-date with the U.S. broadcast Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star, where ten people compete to get their own show on OWN.

“The anticipation for OWN is high as we prepare for the March 1 Canadian launch, and the nested blocks are a great way to provide viewers with a sampling of what’s to come,” Susan Schaefer, vice president and head of networks and marketing at Corus said in a statement.

The sampling will end on February 25, where the winner of The Next Star series will be revealed, just ahead of OWN debuting on Canadian TV.
