Corus Entertainment has announced that it will be launching the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) in Canada on March 1, 2011.
As announced in September, Corus is making OWN available in Canada through a license agreement with the Harpo/Discovery Communications joint venture. The launch date announcement was made Tuesday at a Corus Entertainment upfront presentation.
“With 50% of women already aware of OWN before we’re out of the gate, we’re in a great position to build this into one of Canada’s premier brands; one that will truly resonate with audiences and be a great complement to our other women’s services,” said Susan Schaefer, VP, head of networks and marketing, Corus Entertainment.
Prior to the March launch, Corus will be airing nested blocks of OWN programming via its other women’s channels, VIVA and W Network. On March 1, OWN will launch in over six million homes on what is currently VIVA.
