eOne snags Canadian rights to two action pics

Entertainment One has secured the Canadian distribution rights to the Jason Statham action picture The Killer Elite and the action drama Tomorrow When the War Began (pictured) as part of a two-picture deal with Inferno Entertainment.

Both movies are produced by Australian indie producer Omnilab Media.

Gary McKendry’s The Killer Elite stars Statham as a former Navy SEAL who reassembles his old team, including Robert De Niro, to battle a former SAS member, played by Clive Owen.

The action picture is produced by Michael Boughen through Omnilab’s Australian production arm, Ambience Entertainment, and Joni Sighvatsson.

Tomorrow When the War Began, written and directed by Stuart Beattie, is the highest grossing Australian film of 2010 to date.

The film portrays eight high school friends in a remote town whose lives are suddenly and violently changed by an unpredicted war against a hostile military force.

The action drama is also produced by Michael Boughen.

The two-picture deal, unveiled on the eve of the American Film Market, was hammered out by Entertainment One’s Lara Thompson and Inferno’s Kimberley Fox.
