Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies isn’t the only Canadian film to vie for Oscar bling this awards season.
Halle Berry plans a December theatrical release and a full Oscar campaign for Frankie & Alice, the drama thriller she stars in and produced along with Toronto-based Access Motion Pictures, Vancouver’s Brightlight Pictures and Reality Pictures in Motion.
“[Halle Berry’s] performance is absolutely spectacular,” Shawn Williamson, a principal at Brightlight Pictures and executive producer of Frankie & Alice, told Playback Daily as Berry, an Oscar alum with Monster Ball, vies for a best actress nomination at the upcoming Academy Awards.
The Canadian-financed movie, which portrays Berry as a woman suffering from a multiple personality disorder, was shot in Vancouver in late 2008.
The Geoffrey Sax-directed picture also stars Stellan Skarsgard and Matt Frewer.
Freestyle Releasing plans a limited Oscar qualifying run for Frankie & Alice in December, ahead of a full theatrical release from February 4.
