Wizzfilms and 2d3d pact to make animated movie

Canadian cartoon house Wizzfilms is pacting with France’s 2d3d Animations to produce a stop-motion animated feature based on a French comic book series.

The Rise of Zelphire will be adapted from the popular comic books by French cartoonist Karim Friha, and published by Édition Gallimard.

Work on the Canadian-French co-production will be done at the producers’ respective studios in Montreal and Angoulême.

The Zelphire comic book series portrays traumatized kids in the 19th century rocked by political and technological change that develop extraordinary powers as they become “The Zelphires.”

The story-telling will use stop-motion animation techniques developed for the animated movie by 2d3D Animation and Montreal-based Mokko Studio.

The movie partnership was unveiled by Florent Mounier, co-founder of 2d3D Animations, and Danny Bergeron, president of Wizzfilms, at the Ottawa International Animation Festival.
