Canadian mini-studio Lionsgate Entertainment has unveiled a 3D Facebook game to drive box office for its latest Saw 3D release from October 29.
The multiplayer fan engagement game co-produced with row27 Studios enables users to trap their Facebook friends and complete jigsaw challenges to “save their lives, according to the Vancouver-based producer.
New to the Lionsgate game is the use of real photos of the Facebook user’s own friends as they attempt to elude a jigsaw killer.
“This is a game-changer in the movie industry and social media world; getting your Facebook friends pulled into the game and competing in challenges to save their lives is not something you typically see,” said Twisted Pictures principal Oren Koules, who created the Saw franchise.
He added the interactive game has the potential to engage millions of the movies’ fans, bolster the Saw brand and market the upcoming Halloween Saw 3D release outside traditional promotion channels.
