Keeper kicks off Kistikan Pictures with Buffalo Gal

Tina Keeper has gone from actor and politician to indie producer.

Keeper, best known for her star turn in the CBC series North of 60, has pacted with Winnipeg-based Buffalo Gal Pictures to launch Kistikan Pictures.

The combination of Phyllis Laing, Liz Jarvis and Jean du Toit of Buffalo Gal and Keeper Productions will develop and produce documentaries, dramatic features, short films and TV shows that reflect the “indigenous experience.”

The first project out of the Kistikan pipeline is the third season of the APTN series Cashing In, a co-production between Kistikan Pictures and Animiki See Digital Productions.

Also in development at Kistikan is REDdress REdress, a documentary about a visual art installation by artist Jaime Black.

Keeper served one term in the Canadian House of Commons before losing her re-election bid in 2008.
