Rookie Blue in second season production

Shouldn’t it be called Sophomore Blue?

Global Television’s Rookie Blue is shooting a second season in Toronto through to Christmas.

The Canadian cop drama’s freshman year drew an average 1.8 million viewers on Global Television, and did well enough on ABC stateside to earn a second-season order after only three weeks on air.

The sophomore season will be shot entirely on location in Toronto with returning leads that include Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith, Charlotte Sullivan, Enuka Okuma and Travis Milne.

Rounding out the ensemble cast for the second season are Ben Bass, Eric Johnson, Matt Gordon, Noam Jenkins and Melanie Nicholls King.

Rookie Blue is executive produced by Tassie Cameron and Ilana Frank at indie producer Thump Inc., which developed the Canuck drama before Entertainment One came on board to co-produce the series.

David Wellington is directing, and shares an executive producer credit with eOne’s Noreen Halpern and John Morayniss.
