Canadian New Media Awards announce 2010 nominees

A raft of new categories have been introduced to the upcoming 10th edition of the Canadian New Media Awards.

Best Online Program, Series or Film is among the newly listed categories, recognizing excellence in a production viewed solely by internet audiences. Among those nominees are Canadians in Haiti: Stories of Loss and Remembrance (CBCNews.ca), En audition avec Simon (Radio-Canada), GDP – Measuring the human side of the Canadian economic crisis (NFB) and RemYx (Vivavision).

Digital Media Technology of the Year is another newbie, an award for tech that will most radically change the media landscape. Rounding out the nominees are dimeRocker (OverInteractive Media), HootSuite (HootSuite Media), Shiny Ads (Shiny Ads) and Voices.com (Voices.com).

Best Cross-Platform Project honors interactive enhancement of a TV IP on a digital platform and the four in the category are Inside Disaster (PTV Productions), The Baxter Online Experience (Smokebomb Entertainment), The NFB Test Tube with David Suzuki (NFB) and The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games (Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium, CTV).

Several individuals have also gotten nods as Executive of the Year, such as Alon Marcovici (CTV), Michael McGuigan (Breakthrough New Media), Ryan Holmes (HootSuite Media) and Yann Paquet (Reader’s Digest); while another four candidates are in the running for Producer of the Year are Pablo Vio, (Jam3), Philippe Lamarre (TOXA), Thomas Wallner (Xenophile Media) and Victoria Ha (Stitch Media).

The awards will be presented in Toronto on December 1.
