RIDM slates Quebec doc The Blueberry Blues as closing film

The doc will make its Canadian debut at RIDM following its world premiere at the Camden International Film Festival.

The Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) has selected the Quebec production The Blueberry Blues, from Argentine-born filmmaker Andrés Livov, as the closing-night film for its 2025 edition, which will take place from Nov. 20 to 30.

Produced by Montreal-based prodco Les Glaneuses, The Blueberry Blues (Les blues de bleuet) chronicles the challenges faced by the annual blueberry harvest in the Lac-Saint-Jean region of northern Quebec due to modern farming practices, shifting demographics and climate change.

Despite these challenges, the film depicts how the harvest’s makeshift community of villagers, farmers and seasonal workers from Mexico continue to form bonds of common feeling and resilience.

The Blueberry Blues was previously selected for the EFM Doc Toolbox industry program at DOK Leipzig in 2024.

The film’s helmer Livov also serves as producer on the doc along with filmmaker Iphigénie Marcoux-Fortier, one of his partners in Les Glaneuses. The Quebec-based independent film cooperative Spira is handling Canadian distribution for the film.

The RIDM screening of The Blueberry Blues will mark the doc’s Canadian premiere, following its recently announced world premiere at Maine’s Camden International Film Festival in September.
