The Harold Greenberg Fund has announced the latest round of funding for a slate of projects under its script development program, including Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children and The White Circus from Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski (Madame Tutli-Putli).

Their projects are among the 18 that have been selected for this quarter from 126 applicants. Midnight’s Children, produced by Hamilton-Mehta Productions, is based on Salman Rushdie’s award-winning novel, while Lavis and Szczerbowski’s fable with Silo Corporation tells a fable of war, youth, love and heroism.

Vancouver-based author William Gibson (Neuromancer, also being adapted by Vincenzo Natali) is writing a sci-fi screenplay with Michael St. John Smith called Archangel, to be produced by Red Cedar Films.

Over in Saskatchewan, The Last Crossing will be written by Rob King and produced by Minds Eye Development, while Rosemary House from Newfoundland’s Rock Island Productions is writing and producing Hold Fast based on the novel by Kevin Major.

Others scripts that have been awarded funding include Sweetness in the Belly (Sienna Films), Sailor Girl (Markham Street Films, screenwriter Johanna Schneller), The Outlander (Strada Films, screenwriter Esta Spalding), Perdition City (Front Street Pictures, screenwriters Robin Dunne and Vanessa Parise), One in a Million (Corey Marr Productions, screenwriter Matthew Bissonnette), Kristina of Sweden (Triptych Media, screenwriter Michel Marc Bouchard), Envoy (Filmshow, screenwriter Michael MacLennan), My Asshole Neighbour (Quadrant Motion Pictures, screenwriters Andrew Currie & Robert Chomiak), Cold Blooded Snakes (Darius Films, screenwriter Stephen Kunc), Action Figures (Strident Films, screenwriter Ken Hegan) and A Death in the Bullfighting Hills (Sarrazin Productions, screenwriter Martyn Burke).
