Editor Rik Morden has passed away after a sudden illness.
Morden enjoyed a 35-year career in the film, TV and commercial production industries, collecting several awards for his cuts. In 2006, he shared a DGC Team Award for his work on the documentary Sharkwater.
In 2000, he collected a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Editing for Mary Cassatt: An American Impressionist, having been nominated the year before for Edison: The Wizard of Light. Morden was also nominated for two Geminis, one in 2000 for Rembrandt: Fathers & Sons, and another in 1993 for the classic Beethoven Lives Upstairs.
In addition, his commercial work garnered him recognition from the Bessies, the Cannes Festival, and the International Monitor Awards.
Morden is survived by daughter Jessica, grandson Jack, sister Marina and nieces Jennifer and Stephanie.
A reception will be held in Morden’s memory on Wednesday, October 6 at the Art Gallery of Ontario in FRANK Restaurant, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
