Breakthrough Entertainment has teamed up with Salient Point Productions and Colossal Entertainment to co-produce a series of TV mystery movies.
The deal, unveiled at MIPCOM, continues Breakthrough’s diversification into longer-format programming under Marina Cordoni, executive producer of movies at the indie producer.
The trio of producers will make a wheel of TV movies based on the Rebecca Kane investigator character to be played by Canadian actor/producer Kelly Rowan.
The Rebecca Kane character is created and written by long-time Canadian screenwriter Donald Martin, with Graham Ludlow producing.
“Our collective experience as producers, and Breakthrough’s experience in financing and distribution makes for a perfect partnership. Rebecca Kane is a smart character for television – full of spirit, compelling challenges and suspense,” Cordoni.said in a statement.
Rowan will play a jailed murderer on parole and working as an assistant to a chief of police in a fishing town of Port Barrie. Having spent time in prison for a crime she didn’t commit, Rowan’s character becomes an especially impassioned investigator.
Breakthrough is looking to fill out production financing for the wheel of TV mysteries in Cannes.
