CBC orders third season of Mittens & Pants

The live-action series also launched on online game platform Roblox in late 2024.

CBC has commissioned a third season of the live-action preschool series Mittens & Pants from Toronto-based prodco Windy Isle Entertainment.

Sky Kids U.K. and Ireland is also on board as a broadcast partner. The 45 x 7-minute season, currently in production in Hamilton, Ont., will broadcast on CBC and CBC Gem later this year.

Vancouver-based Thunderbird Entertainment’s distribution arm signed on to distribute and manage the series’ consumer products globally in July 2022. The series is supported by the Canada Media Fund, Ontario Creates, the Shaw Rocket Fund and federal tax credits.

Mittens & Pants features real animals voiced by children and follows a kitten and puppy who live in the all-animal town Kibbles Corner. The series is created by showrunner Phil McCordic.

Thunderbird announced international and domestic sales for the series’ first two seasons. U.S. streamers Peacock and HappyKids have acquired the 42-episode season two, alongside Calgary-based Kidoodle.TV. These ad-supported streaming platforms previously acquired the first season in November 2023.

TFO and Radio-Canada have picked up the 39-episode first season. According to a release, Mittens & Pants is now available in 78 territories, including France, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Greenland, Hong Kong and more.

On Nov. 30, 2024, the series landed on the Roblox platform via Windy Isle Digital’s My Carrots Simulator, featuring Monsieur LaFleur, a bunny character from the show. As of press time, My Carrots Simulator has had more than 22,000 visits.

The series has  grown its audience through social media, with 65 million views and 7.3 million interactions across YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, said the release.

“Windy Isle and Thunderbird are doing an incredible job of baking discoverability right into their brand strategy, helping to grow the global audience for Mittens & Pants,” said Marie McCann, CBC Kids senior director, children’s content, in a statement.
