Canadian Pickers picked by History Television

After making American Pickers (pictured) a hit south of the border on History, Cineflex Productions has sold Canwest Global’s History Television the format to make a local junkyard scavenger series Canadian Pickers.

Canadian hosts Sheldon Smithens and Scott Cozens will take the crew of the local reality series through Nova Scotia this week, and then countrywide, to discover hidden treasure from collectors and hoarders to sell for hard cash.

The format for the Canadian series was acquired from Cineflex, and is based on the success of American Pickers stateside.

The U.S. series in turn has drawn impressive numbers airing on History Television.

“Our vast country is ripe for the picking and it’s a thrill to embark on the coast-to-coast production of Canadian Pickers,” Christine Shipton, senior vice president of dramatic and factual content at Canwest Broadcasting, said in a statement.
