Fox has renewed Vancouver and L.A.-based Sepia Films’ Murder in a Small Town for a second season.
The series saw its first season air on Fox and Corus’s Global on Sept. 24, 2024. Murder in a Small Town was Global’s top Canadian series of 2024. Season-to-date, the series is among the top new three shows for Fox content on Hulu and for all Fox 2024-25 season content on the streamer, according to a Thursday (Jan. 16) release from Fox. Fox commissioned the B.C.-shot drama in 2023 for its 2024 season.
Global has also confirmed with Playback Daily that it has acquired the second season of Murder in a Small Town.
The series, based on the B.C.-set Karl Alberg series from author L.R. Wright, is produced by Sepia Films in association with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment. Vancouver-based Soapbox Productions originally optioned the series and Soapbox’s Nick Orchard serves as an executive producer along with Morris Ruskin, Sharon Wisnia, Joe Cotton and B.C. novelist Ian Weir, who also serves as head writer.
The series stars Rossif Sutherland (Reign, pictured right) and Kristin Kreuk (Smallville, pictured left) and follows Sutherland’s detective character as he tries to solve a series of murders in a small town.
ITV holds international rights for the series outside the U.S. and Canada.
Directors for the 8 x 60-minute first season were Milan Cheylov, Leslie Hope and Amanda Tapping.
