Kate Ziegler elected president of ACTRA Toronto

Ziegler began her two-year term as the president of ACTRA Toronto on Jan. 7.

Kate Ziegler has been elected by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) Toronto Council as the organization’s president.

Ziegler began her two-year term as president on Jan. 7, succeeding David Gale following his second two-year term in the role.

She joined ACTRA in 2011 and was elected VP for ACTRA Toronto in January 2024. Ziegler also serves as the ACTRA Toronto representative on the Political Action Committee of the Ontario Federation of Labour, an umbrella group for workers and their unions.

Her screen credits include Flashpoint, Nikita and Man Vs., but in the past decade she has shifted her focus to voice work. Ziegler has served as the brand voice for advertising campaigns from companies such as Rogers, Lotto 649 and Ford, prior to the labour dispute for commercial workers that began in 2022.

Ziegler is described in an ACTRA statement as a powerful advocate for the creative working class. She has been a committed labour organizer since 2022, and is involved in trying to resolve the ongoing labour dispute between ACTRA and the Institute of Canadian Agencies after negotiations broke down over the National Commercial Agreement.

“I am in this role to support the members. To show up, do the work and enact the changes members seek through my leadership,” said Ziegler in a statement. “I look forward to building on a vision that is inclusive, strategic and democratic.”
