TVA Group gets funny with QuebeComm

Quebec broadcaster TVA Group has acquired a non-verbal TV series entitled lOl:-) made up of around 1000 comic mini-clips, or 39 half-hours of content, to be produced over three years.

The comedy clips, ranging from 30 seconds to two minutes, are to be produced by indie producer QuebeComm.

Quebec distributor FarMore Distribution sealed the licensing deal with TVA, and has also sold IOl:-) to Japanese broadcaster Nippon and Comedie in France.

The comedy content will be shot in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Morocco.

“We’re convinced that these funny stories have all the potential necessary to meet the demands of the international market,” France Lauzière, vice president of programming for TVA, said in a statement.

“The lOl:-) series, a truly multi-generational product has two other major advantages: the clips are non-verbal and adapt easily to all broadcast platforms,” added FarMore president Nathalie Bourdon.

The series’ producers include Pierre Paquin, Denis Savard and Daniel Michaud.
