Canadian-Hungarian filmmaker Anita Doron (The Lesser Blessed) is now filming her latest feature, the Canada-Greece coproduction Maya & Samar.
Principal photography is now underway in Athens with filming also taking place in Toronto before wrapping in October.
Maya & Samar is written by Canadian author Tamara Faith Berger (Lie With Me). It is produced by Robert Lantos (Eastern Promises) of Toronto’s Serendipity Point Films and Julia Rosenberg (Lie With Me) from Toronto-based January Films. Nikolas Alavanos (The Last Taxi Driver) of Greek prodco Filmiki Productions is a co-producer, as well as Steve Solomos (Seven Veils) and Laura Lanktree (Crimes of the Future).
The film stars Nicolette Pearse (We Forgot to Break Up) and Amanda Babaei Vieira (Störung) as two people from vastly different worlds who, in the outskirts of Athens, become involved in a passionate affair that lays bare their conflicting cultures.
VVS is the Canadian distributor with South Africa’s Distant Horizon handling international sales. The film is executive-produced by Distant Horizon’s Anant Singh (Yesterday) with VVS’ Harry Grivakis, Ernie Grivakis, Javi Hernandez and Claire Peace-McConnell as co-executive producers.
Maya & Samar was produced in association with Telefilm Canada, the Greek Film Centre, Distant Horizon, Bell Media, CBC, Ontario Creates and the Harold Greenberg Fund, and with the support of Greece’s EKOME.
