Corus Entertainment scripted production executive Susan Alexander (pictured) has departed after more than 16 years with the broadcaster.
Alexander announced in a LinkedIn post on Sept. 1 that she would be leaving to Corus “to pursue other opportunities in our industry.” A spokesperson for Corus confirmed the departure to Playback Daily.
“What a privilege it has been to collaborate on over 500 episodes of great Canadian content for Global, Showcase, W, YTV, Treehouse and History,” wrote Alexander. “I have worked with amazing people both at Corus and in the independent production community, and look forward to continuing to build on that legacy.”
Alexander’s recent credits include The Hardy Boys under Nelvana and the W Network’s Love Club films.
Her departure comes at a turbulent time for Corus Entertainment, with the company laying off roughly 800 positions in total by the end of August. Among the high profile exits are EVP and chief revenue officer Greg McLelland and Nelvana Studios VP Athena Georgaklis.
Corus announced Tuesday (Sept. 3) that it had reached an agreement with lenders to increase its debt ratio to 4.75 until Oct. 15, giving the company a six-week extension to pay off some of its existing debt.
“Entering into this amendment is a prudent step as part of a more comprehensive plan we are working through to strengthen our balance sheet and manage liabilities,” said co-CEO and CFO John Gossling in a statement. “Corus is a critical independent player in the Canadian broadcast industry with a portfolio of valuable assets. We continue to take the necessary steps to create and deliver premium content, and engage audiences across Canada.”
