Toronto-based entertainment law firm Hall Webber LLP is launching a new venture, The No Conflict Clearance Company (TNCCC).
The company was co-founded by Hall Webber lawyers Lon Hall, Danny Webber and Mitchel Fleming, together with artificial intelligence (AI) technology and programming expert William Cubitt-Smith.
The new service targets script and title clearance which is needed for errors and omissions (E&O) insurance policies, a requirement for film, television and content producers.
According to a statement, the concept for TNCCC is to replace outdated methods of email and PDF-based clearances with a secure, digital interactive platform for submission, review and reporting processes.
The platform uses AI technologies alongside entertainment lawyers for ongoing quality control and report vetting.
The end goal is for the script and title clearance process to be faster, more affordable, and provide higher-quality clearances than traditional methods. The reports generated by the new platform are also recognized and approved by leading insurers, reinforcing the reliability and credibility of the service, according to a statement.
While touting its commitment to ensure confidentiality and privacy for users’ data, TNCCC also touches on issues that arose during the joint Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild strikes last year with its claim that it “guarantees the security of its AI processes, which do not store or utilize inputted information for machine learning purposes.”
The services will be accessible in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and English-speaking Europe.
