ISO, Creative BC partner for sustainable production initiative

A combined $200,000 will be allocated to support environmentally sustainable practices through the Indigenous Screen Office's Production Program.

The Indigenous Screen Office (ISO) has partnered with Creative BC’s Reel Green initiative to help support sustainable production work through an Indigenous lens.

The ISO and Creative BC will contribute $100,000 each, totalling $200,000, toward environmentally sustainable production practices via ISO’s Production Program as of Aug. 28.

The funding is eligible for B.C.-based applicants and will provide up to $20,000 per applicant. Eligible costs include the hiring of a sustainability coordinator, eco-friendly transportation and sustainable set design, green workshops, waste reduction and more.

Additional information will be available on the ISO website at a later date.

“This is an opportunity for ISO to actively encourage Indigenous productions to implement environmentally friendly practices,” said ISO CEO Kerry Swanson in a statement. “Creative BC is a long-standing partner to ISO and this new collaboration aligns perfectly with ISO’s mandate and Indigenous values.”

“Focused on the industry’s environmental sustainability in B.C. and beyond, the Reel Green top-up boosts budgets for actions that reduce a project’s consumption and carbon footprint,” added Marnie Gee, B.C. film commissioner and director of production services. “The partnership will also open new pathways for Indigenous perspectives to guide Reel Green’s strategies and industry commitments to help protect First Nations’ unceded lands.”
