The Pacific Screenwriting Program (PSP) has partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery Access Canada (WBD Access Canada) to support its programs.
WBD Access Canada is now the lead funder of the Story Department Internship program, which gives emerging B.C.-based writers their first opportunity to participate in a writers room via subsidized internships. The program is also supported by Creative BC.
WBD Access Canada is also investing in market-readiness workshops for program alumni from PSP programs such as the Scripted Series Lab and the Indigenous Screenwriters Lab.
The Scripted Series Lab is a 15-week program that pairs six emerging screenwriters with a showrunner-in-residence to develop an original series.
The Indigenous Screenwriters Lab is a collaboration with Paramount+ and the Indigenous Screen Office to help mid-career Indigenous writers develop their pilot scripts in the futurism and sci-fi genres.
PSP executive director Camilla Tibbs said the investment is “a further endorsement of the PSP and the vital role it plays in the domestic scripted industry in B.C.,” in a statement.
