Peacock has acquired Jen Markowitz’s debut feature documentary Summer Qamp, which premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival and went on to screen at over 40 festivals around the world.
Directed by Markowitz, the doc (pictured) follows a group of LGBTQ+ youth at an idyllic lakeside camp in rural Alberta, Canada, where they enjoy a traditional summer-camp experience in a safe, affirming environment and deepen their connections with their community and themselves.
Summer Qamp (pictured) is a Cineflix production presented by Bright West Entertainment, in association with Hello Friend Media and Steve Robillard. Executive producers include J.C. Mills and Tanya Blake for Cineflix Productions; Lauren Heimer and Mia Weier for Hello Friend; and Alex Lieberman for Bright West Entertainment, along with Michelle Mama.
It was also announced that Steve Robillard, part of the Summer Qamp production team, will be collaborating on a stage adaptation of the doc with actor and director Clea DuVall.

Under the deal the 52 x 11-minute series will launch regionally on Cartoon Network and Max sometime in Q3.

Big Blue was originally commissioned by CBC Kids in Canada and has been sold to multiple partners including Nickelodeon (U.K.), ABC Kids (Australia), EBS (South Korea), RTS (Switzerland), RTVE/Clan (Spain), MBC Group (Middle East) and Cartoon Network (Africa).
Gangnam Project
Five major broadcasters have scooped up K-pop tween series Gangnam Project since its launch in Canada (CBC Gem) and the UK (BBC iPlayer) in March.
The series is produced by Toronto’s Pillango Productions and Aircraft Pictures.
Distributor Federation Kids & Family has inked new sales deals for the 10 x 30-minute live-actioner with France Télévisions, ABC Australia, NRK (Norway), YLE (Finland) and TV3 Group (Baltics).
Set in Korea and based on an original concept by creator and Pillango founder Sarah Haasz, Gangnam Project is about a Canadian/Korean teen who takes a job teaching English at a K-pop training school in Seoul and ends up becoming a student herself.
Composer August Rio, who has made music for mega-group BTS and Justin Bieber, is behind the show’s catchy K-pop tunes.
