Epic Story Media, Jakks Pacific giddy up for Wild Manes

The new partnership will see Epic produce a 2D-animated series that will launch on YouTube Kids this summer.

Toronto’s Epic Story Media has partnered with U.S. toy company Jakks Pacific on a new horse-themed entertainment IP called Wild Manes.

First to market will be a 2D-animated series (40 x five minutes) that’s set to run on YouTube Kids this summer. Then Jakks will trot out a toy line to retailers worldwide in the fall, including horses, characters, carts, accessories and playsets that replicate scenes from the shorts, such as Bailey’s surf shack and Cherie’s Mane Macarons cart.

The show is set in the fictional town of Wild, where the friendly townhorses Cocoa, Bailey, Cherie, Candi and Perla reside. Together, they cater to the town’s citizens by serving up drinks and treats before going on adventures to solve their troubles, such as finding missing smoothie ingredients, offering mane makeovers and throwing a surprise birthday party.

Cheryl Hassen, the former head of children’s and youth programming at CBC Television, is attached as a creative producer with Tahir Rana (Momolu & Friends) directing the series.

Epic’s Freeground games studio is also adapting the IP into an all-new Roblox game to launch later this year. Players will be able to interact with the characters and trot around town. New accessories and mane colours for their avatars can be unlocked by going on quests with the show’s characters.
