Regina sets the stage for Hostile Takeover

The action-thriller from Karma Film and Dovetale Media is in production at the sound stage's LED volume.

Filming is underway in Regina on the Karma Film and Dovetale Media coproduced action thriller Hostile Takeover (w/t).

Production is taking place at the LED volume built by L.A.-based Volume Global at the John Hopkins Regina Soundstage in Saskatchewan.

Hostile Takeover, led by action stunt director Markos Rounthwaite, follows the story of a New York City hitman. The film stars Michael Jai White and Aimee Stolte. Rounthwaite is also an executive producer. Additional production credits and details about the project will be revealed in April, according to a news release.

The project marks the first official virtual production on the LED volume, said the release. Volume Global claims the volume is the “largest in Canada.”

Volume Global, which specializes in the creation and operations of LED volumes and pop-up soundstages, has taken a long-term lease on the Regina sound stage to facilitate a film and series production slate “well into late 2025 and early 2026,” a spokesperson for the company told Playback Daily.

“This groundbreaking endeavour is the official unveiling of a unique modular LED Volume design and employs a proprietary workflow,” said Christopher Rush Harrington, producer and co-founder of Volume Global, in a statement.

The 340-degree LED volume at the John Hopkins Regina Soundstage is 27 feet tall, 75 feet in diameter with an interior of more than 4,000 square feet, said Harrington.

Volume Global is nearing completion of a pop-up sound stage in Sudbury, Ont., with installation of its own LED volume scheduled for summer.
