Toronto prodco Aircraft Pictures has teamed up with U.K. filmmaker Jamie Magnus Stone (pictured) to develop a TV adaptation of the sci-fi novel Non-Stop.
Stone will write and direct the series, which is based on U.K. author Brian W. Aldiss’ 1958 novel. Stone will also serve as an executive producer alongside Aircraft’s co-founders Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen, Gina Marcheschi and Benjamin Anderson.
Non-Stop centres on a man born into a primitive society who soon discovers his tribe is one of many aboard a huge spaceship. In 2007, it was awarded the British Science Fiction Association’s 50th Anniversary Award for Best Novel of 1958.
Aircraft will be showcasing the project to potential buyers and coproducing partners at Series Mania this month, according to a news release.
The rights agreement for the novel was brokered by Anna Weguelin on behalf of the Brian W. Aldiss estate and the Heritage Department at literary agency Curtis Brown, as well as Ryan Saul and Corey Trent Ackerman of L.A.- and London-based management company The Cartel, and Jago Irwin at London agency Independent Talent Group on behalf of Jamie Magnus Stone.
“We’re excited to bring this science-fiction classic to the screen as part of Aircraft’s continued expansion into scripted drama,” said Leo and Rosen in a statement, adding that “we’re fortunate to be working with one of the U.K.’s most exciting directors and look forward to bringing Jamie’s compelling vision for this adaptation to fruition.”
At last year’s Series Mania, Aircraft announced the limited series The Emperor’s Stone, which is a coproduction with French prodco Nolita and South Africa’s Film Afrika for French public broadcaster France Television, Germany’s ZDF and Italy’s RAI.
