Asylum Entertainment Group opens Vancouver office

Brad Bernstein has been tapped to oversee the Canadian branch of the company.

California-based Asylum Entertainment Group is continuing its expansion, opening an office in Vancouver to take advantage of Canada’s production-friendly environment.

Brad Bernstein (pictured left), chief content officer at Texas Crew Productions (TCP), a prodco now under Asylum’s banner, will relocate to Vancouver to establish an executive presence and oversee the growth of the Canadian office. Bernstein oversees more than 50 hours of current programming for linear and digital platforms across genres including documentaries, docureality, true crime and history, among others.

“Our new Canadian office will provide exciting opportunities for our domestic partners and introduce the Canadian broadcast market to Asylum’s extensive portfolio of brands,” said Asylum CEO Steve Michaels in a statement.

As part of the expansion, longtime Asylum employee James Macnab (pictured right) is being elevated to the position of EVP, and will report directly to Bernstein. Previously, Macnab served as SVP of content, overseeing current programming across a diverse slate of feature docs, limited series and series, including Shaq Life (TNT), Eli Roth’s History of Horror (AMC), In Ice Cold Blood (Oxygen), Sins of the Amish and Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed (Peacock).

“James has been an integral part of Asylum’s success — he is both a well-respected producer and talented creative,” said Bernstein of the promotion. “His expertise is invaluable as we continue to manage a wide slate of programming across multiple companies.”
