Bell Fund allocates $2M to 10 short-form series

Projects receiving funding include the second seasons of OUTtv's Killjoy Comedy and the TV5Unis French-language series Detox.

The Bell Fund has allocated nearly $2 million in production support to 10 projects through its Short-Form Digital Series Program.

Projects receiving funding include seven English-language series and three French-language series, with $1.5 million going towards production and $485,000 for audience development. The short-form program supports Canadian independent creators by funding premium, original series for online distribution, specifically the production of fiction and non-fiction projects.

The English-language projects receiving funding include three OUTtv series: scripted title Good Grief (Pumpkin Patch Production; 6 x 15 minutes); season two of the stand-up series Killjoy Comedy (Titular Productions; 6 x 20 minutes); the comedy Novelette is Trying (10 x 12 minutes); and the OUTtv-AMI co-commission Get Hooked (Bone Vault; 7 x 20 minutes), a fishing doc series.

Rounding out the English-language projects are three series for Shaftesbury’s YouTube channel KindaTV: the ensemble comedy Degrees of Separation (Tooth & Nail Pictures, Fae Pictures; 6 x 16 minutes); scripted series Pioneer Girl (Fenton & Smordin Pictures; 6 x 10 minutes); and the sketch comedy Southern Interior (Watershed Productions; 6 x 10 minutes).

All three French-language series selected are scripted projects. They include Noovo.ca’s Ils sont parmi nous (Pixcom; 8 x 12 minutes); Telequebec.tv’s T-REX (inséparables films; 7 x 15 minutes); and season two of Dextox (UGO Média; 8 x 12 minutes) for TV5Unis.ca.
