Nuit Blanche
ZDF Studios has picked up global rights to the second season of Nuit Blanche, plus Superights sells Home Sweet Rome! in multiple territories, and more.

Germany’s ZDF Studios has picked up global distribution rights to the second season of Prime Video Canada and Séries Plus’ murder mystery drama Nuit Blanche (pictured).

The deal for the second season, which is produced by Montreal’s Pixcom, was brokered by ZDF Studios’ director drama Mirela Nastase, according to a news release.

Nuit Blanche is created and written by Julie Hivon. Nathalie Cecyre is producer, and executive producers include Nicola Merola and Charles Lafortun. Season two of the French-language series is slated to premiere on Prime Video in Canada and Corus Entertainment’s specialty channel Séries Plus in spring/summer 2024.

ZDF Studios also holds rights to season one, which aired on ICI Radio-Canada Télé. It sold season one to Molotov France, VOD Poland and Pink TV.

Terranoa

Quebec director Philippe Falardeau’s Lac-Mégantic – ceci n’est pas un accident has been picked up by France’s Terranoa for international distribution, while Canal+ Group has picked up French rights for the docuseries.

The docuseries is produced by Montreal’s Trio Orange in association with Québecor Content for Quebecor’s factual SVOD Vrai. Annie Sirois is the producer, and Carlos Soldevila executive produced.

The 4 x 44-minute series looks at the fallout of the 2013 train derailment in the Quebec town of Lac-Mégantic, which destroyed roughly half of the downtown area and killed 47 people. The docuseries won the audience award at the 2023 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

Superights

Superights, the distribution arm of France’s Superprod Group, has inked a raft of deals for the Canada-Italy coproduced live-action teen series Home Sweet Rome!

The sales include SVT (Sweden), NPO (Netherlands), NRK (Norway), YLE (Finland), Euskal Telebista (Spain), ABC (Australia) and TVNZ (New Zealand).

Home Sweet Rome! (13 x 26 minutes) is produced by Toronto’s First Generation Films and Milan-based Red Monk Studio. The series has also been renewed for a second season.

Max (U.S.), Rai (Italy), WildBrain (Canada), BBC (U.K,) and ARD/One Gate Media (Germany) originally commissioned Home Sweet Rome! to premiere in their respective territories this past summer and fall.

Uvagut TV

Uvagut TV has partnered with Weather Network to launch Inuktut-dialect weather forecasts.

The four three-minute weather forecasts are delivered every hour across the Inuit regions of Nunatsiaq, Nunavut, Nunavik and Nunatsiavut. Uvagut TV’s Lucy Tulugarjuk worked with five translators to provide The Weather Network with the right terminology for the dialects of Nunatsiaq, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut and Nunavut’s Kivalliq and Qikiqtaaluk regions, according to a news release.

Owned and operated by Nunavut Independent Television, Uvagut TV is Canada’s first 24/7 Inuktut-language television station. The station launched in 2021 and broadcasts to more than 600,000 subscribers on Shaw Direct satellite, Arctic Co-op Cable and and local satellite channels across Canada.

Telus

Telus has signed an agreement with Quebecor Content to offer illico to customers of its IPTV service OPTIK TV.

Under the agreement, OPTIK TV customers can subscribe to Club illico for $10 a month, saving $5 on a standalone subscription. The deal makes available more than 6,500 French-language titles from Club illico to users of OPTIK TV, including Détective Surprenant, Lac-Noir and Léo to French versions of popular international series like The Handmaid’s Tale and the latest films.
