Paramount+ Canada has partnered with the Shine Network Institute (TSNI) to launch a new online course aimed at supporting Indigenous women with professional development and mentorship.
The Indigenous Producers Budgeting Intensive is focused on budgeting in film for emerging to mid-level Indigenous female producers.
Made up of 10 one-hour sessions that will help students on their journey to produce their first feature, the course will be available via TSNI’s @Learnatshine platform starting June 21, 2024, coinciding with National Indigenous Peoples Day. The course availability is open to all Indigenous professionals working in Canadian film and TV.
“Partnerships like this allow TSNI to offer the highest level of training and mentorship while building capacity for Indigenous people within the screen sector,” said Jennifer Podemski, TSNI president and CEO, in a statement.
Doug Smith, SVP streaming and content licensing for Paramount Global, Canada, added that the course “will provide tangible skills to those interested in line producing, one of the most important jobs on any set,” noting that the project can be built on “in the months and years to come to support even more of TSNI’s membership and the next generation of Indigenous producers.”
Paramount+ Canada has launched a number of partnerships this year, including the new Black Creators Festival Initiative in collaboration with the Black Screen Office, as well as the Elevate program developed alongside BIPOC TV & Film and the National Screen Institute.
