D Films takes Affleck doc

Casey Affleck’s I’m Still Here has been snapped up by Toronto’s D Films, which has acquired the exclusive, long-term distribution rights in all media.

The biopic, about Oscar-nominated Joaquin Phoenix’s reinvention as a hip-hop artist, is also Affleck’s directorial debut, and is slated to hit major Canuck theaters on September 24.

Prior to that, I’m Still Here will get its North American premiere as a Special Presentation at this year’s TIFF, as well as a world premiere at the 67th Venice Film Festival, screening out-of-competition.

The deal was negotiated by D Films president and CEO Jim Sherry and by Magnolia Pictures international sales executive Laird Adamson.
