Telefilm Canada and the Canadian Film Centre have seen a feature from their recent comedy lab greenlit: the workplace laugher Servitude from Buck Productions and Victory Man Productions.
The movie from director Warren Sonoda and based on a script by Michael Sparaga (Sidekick) portrays frustrated waiters who band together and take over their restaurant for one glorious, revenge-filled night before they stand to be fired.
Maple Pictures will release the theatrical comedy domestically.
Sean Buckley and Michael Sparaga are producing.
No word on casting. Production is set for this fall.
Servitude emerged from a comedy boot-camp held last year by the Canadian Film Centre and the Just For Laughs comedy festival where, with backing from Telefilm, Los Angeles heavyweights like Ivan Reitman, Etan Cohen and Gloria Fan came north to help Canuck writing/producing teams get feature comedy scripts into shape for packaging and production at home or in Hollywood.
