Vancouver’s Thunderbird Distribution has acquired consumer product rights to BooSnoo! and will also sell the British series internationally outside the U.K.
Sky Kids commissioned the 41 x 7-minute series, which features a ball moving through different landscapes, incorporating live action, CG animation and stop motion. Visionality — the banner of BooSnoo! creator Julian Bashford — produces the series with Mackinnon & Saunders.
BooSnoo! debuted in February on Sky Kids, which has now renewed it for a 21 x 7-minute second season. Thunderbird pitched the show to buyers this month at MIPJunior, where it ranked sixth in terms of views in the event’s screening library.
Tailored with neurodiverse audiences in mind, BooSnoo! features ASMR, repetition and calming music. Bashford created the series based on his experiences parenting a child with autism. He drew on common autistic stimming (a.k.a. calming) elements such as spinning, numbers and bold colors.
“[The series is] exactly the kind of property we’re looking to acquire at Thunderbird Distribution,” said Richard Goldsmith, president of global distribution and consumer products, in a statement. “It has great potential to entertain audiences globally and to develop into a brand with its toyetic sets and its star, the little red ball.”
