Dufferin Gate Studios has expanded its studio space in Toronto’s east end.
The Toronto-based studio operator has signed a memorandum of understanding to become the exclusive film and television operators of 1510 Birchmount Road studio space in Scarborough, Ont., the facility previously operated by Stratagem Studios.
Dufferin Gate is integrating the space with a neighbouring facility it has been operating at 1550 Birchmount Road since 2021, Noël Phillips, general manager at Dufferin Gate Studios, told Playback Daily. Projects filmed at the location include Hallmark Channel series The Way Home, produced by Neshama Entertainment.
Studio 1510 is “home to two of the largest clear span stages in North America” with up to 60 foot ceilings, according to Dufferin Gate. The integrated studios offer 240,000 square feet of stage and production support space, and will be operated as Birchmount Studios under the Dufferin Gate umbrella.
Dufferin Gate now operates a total of seven studios and has been home to domestic and international productions, including feature films, TV series and commercials. Projects its studios have hosted include Locke & Key, Sort Of, and 8-Bit Christmas, among others.
The 1510 Birchmount Road facility was operated as Eastside Studios by Stratagem Studios, which has hosted productions such as Marvel Studios series Hawkeye. Stratagem did not respond to a request for comment on the ownership change as of press time.
