Farpoint Films casts off with series Fishing For History

The series about magnet fishing is part of an exclusive deal to produce content for Super Channel.

Winnipeg-based prodco Farpoint Films has announced the start of production on a new series, Fishing For History.

Filming begins this week and runs through the rest of the year in Manitoba, Canada and the U.S., with the show set to debut on Super Channel in 2024.

The 13-episode series focuses on magnet fishing, which uses high-powered magnets instead of lures and can “catch” items like coins and keys, but can also yield historical items like guns, swords, grenades and more.

Fishing For History will be hosted by Mike Linton and Justin Gerbrandt, commercial fishermen based in Gimli, Man., who starred for three years on the Cottage Life network series Ice Vikings. Scott R. Leary is a producer.

The series is directed by Cam Bennett (Ice Vikings) and features underwater photography from Dave Gaudet (The Medicine Line). Filming locations will include the Mississippi, MacKenzie, Potemac and Rio Grande rivers, among others.

Fishing For History is part of Farpoint’s exclusive deal with Super Channel, announced earlier this year, to provide 150 hours of scripted and non-scripted shows over the next year.
